Excitement Builds For The 2011 Conocophillips Rodeo Run
Houston, Texas, Feb. 3, 2011 – The ConocoPhillips Rodeo Run returns for its 24th year as Houston’s only point-to-point 10K race and 5K fun run/walk. Runners and walkers around the region are gearing up for the event, including local elite athletes, high school runners and many Texas families. The Rodeo Run is a Texas tradition complete with western costumes, plenty of hoopla and southern hospitality. With registration fees benefitting the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo TM (HLSR) Educational Fund, participants are sure to have a great experience while making a difference in the lives of deserving Texas youth.
Local elite runner, Sean Wade, is already looking forward to this year’s Rodeo Run. Sean is a New Zealand native who started running while he attended Rice University. He has run professionally for 20 years, trains hundreds of Houston runners through his Kenyan Way program, and was also named the Male Masters Runner of the Year in 2006 by the Road Runners Club of America. Sean is a proud supporter of the Rodeo Run and is an eight-time overall winner of the men’s 10K. “The Rodeo Run is unique because it kicks off the Houston Rodeo Parade, and thousands of spectators are right there at the start. Many of the runners cheer you on along the way as well,” he explains. Sean will compete again in this year’s 10K race and hopes to have another top finish. All of the expected 15,000 Rodeo Run participants can look forward to an energetic crowd lined up along the downtown racecourse.
Online registration for the Rodeo Run continues through Feb. 20. Participants are encouraged to register online, as no online processing fee will apply for the 2011 event. Registration is just $25 until Feb. 5, and $30 thereafter. Several in-person registration events are also available. In-person early registration will be hosted by H-E-B on Saturday, Feb. 5 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The store is located at 9710 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77055. One lucky person will win a roundtrip ticket at this registration event, compliments of Rodeo Run gold spur sponsor, Continental Airlines (see the Rodeo Run website for details). Runners and walkers may also register and pick up their packets at Luke’s Locker, 1953 West Gray, Wednesday, Feb. 23 through Friday, Feb. 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. each day.
